Fall New Release Books to PreOrder Today

If you’ve spent any time around the publishing industry lately (as a reader, writer, consumer of published books, etc) you might know that there is a serious supply chain issue headed our way this fall. Of course, supply chain issues are ubiquitous a year and half into a global pandemic, but they might affect the publishing industry you’ve come to know and love in ways you might not expect. It’s not just that books might not be on the shelves when you wander in to your favorite brick and mortar to buy them; it’s highly likely that the books you want might not be published at all.

Yeah. It’s dire.

What can we do? Well apart from doing everything you can to support authors by buying their books, and supporting bookstores by NOT USING AMAZON, one of the best ways to help ensure that your favorite authors and the new ones you’ve yet to meet get in our tiny hot hands this holiday season is to PRE-ORDER THOSE BITCHES.

Pre-ordering helps publishers not only know that a book will sell well, it helps them be prepared for the demand, and it creates a tangential demand for similar books to be pushed to market. You want to keep reading that dark academia reverse harem romance? Pre-order those bad boys (pun intended) now.

“But, Beth,” you might say, “I don’t know what books are coming out this fall that I need to pre-order now.” I don’t relate to you, but I will help you. Here is a list of my most anticipated reads for before the holidays.

The links will take you to Goodreads, but please purchase these from your favorite indie book store, if you can. It helps so many arms of the publishing industry to cut Bezos out of our book shelves. If you don’t have an indie that you use or like, use mine: Novel Memphis

September Releases to Pre-Order:

Dark Rise by CS Pacat September 28th

CS Pacat wrote one of my absolute favorite series of all time, Captive Prince, and Dark Rise is her newest full length novel. I preordered it from Parnassus Books in Nashville, just to get a signed bookplate.

First Love, Take Two Sajni Patel September 21st

Contemporary Romance with a huge pre-release buzz and adorable premise.

The Bronzed Beasts by Roshani Choksi September 21st

The sequel to one of the best fantasy young adult novels to come out recently, The Gilded Wolves. I pre-ordered this one as soon as it was available.

The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling Sept 28th

One of our author faves, Rachel Hawkins, is back with her pseudonymous  paranormal romance perfect for spooky September.

The Last Graduate by Naomi Novik September 28th

Another sequel by another fantastic fantasy author. I have a type.

October Releases to Pre-Order:

The Vanished Days Susanna Kearsley October 5th

Love Scotland, Jacobites and romance? Susanna Kearsley writes sweeping, epic and gorgeous historical fiction. I want to curl up with a cup of whisky and this one.

We Are Not Like Them Christine Pride and Jo Piazza October 5th

Dual authors! And a highly anticipated story of two friends, a life-altering event and how their bonds are tested

by the complex challenges of race in America today.

State of Terror Hillary Rodham Clinton Louise Penny October 12th

Our president has written a political thriller and murder mystery? I don’t have a single thing else to do in October now.

The Whistling Rebecca Netley October 14th

It’s October. You’ll need some Scottish horror. Trust me.

All the Feels Olivia Dade Ocotber 26th

One of our favorite contemporary romance authors is back at it with a super hot actor/assistant romance.

November Releases to Pre-Order:

A Certain Appeal Vanessa King November 2nd

ALERT: Pride and Prejudice Retelling PLUS Burlesque! I mean. I MEAN.

A Marvelous Light Freya Marske November 2nd

Excuse me but sweet, historical LGBTQ romance with a magical library and prickly academic and a waylaid himbo??? TAKE MY MONEY.

God of Mercy Okezie Nwoka November 2nd

Another adult fantasy novel but in the vein of Homegoing. It looks LUSH.

The Wit and Wisdom of Bridgerton Julia Quinn Nov 9th

Subtitle: Lady Whistledown’s Official Guide … so, you know you want it.

Go Tell The Bees that I am Gone Diana Gabaldon November 23rd

This is literally the only one on the list that I will not be personally pre-ordering, but I figured you guys wanted to know. I’ll wait until it’s out in trade paperback. Sorry, not sorry.

I’ve made a handy downloadable list of all these books, so you can check off the ones you’ve preordered, and keep track of other books you are interested in buying before the end of the year. Download The Cool Table Fall Book List right here!

Alright, friends, this should get you started on a good streak of amazing books to purchase this fall, if you have the means. If you are a Library Request person, go ahead and put holds on what you want through the end of the year, if your library allows that. That also can go a long way to hyping up the publishing industry, and really helps authors.
