The Heir Affair is Worthy of a Royal Announcement

Hear ye, hear ye! The much anticipated sequel to The Royal We from authors Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan is being released on July 7.  We are only days away from finally getting our anglophile hands on the rest of Bex and Nick’s story of love, infamy, scandal and, yes, royalty in The Heir Affair.

All I’m saying is that Cocks and Morgan need to buy lottery tickets because, this book is clairvoyant.

After a scandalous secret turns their fairy-tale wedding into a nightmare, Rebecca “Bex” Porter and her husband Prince Nicholas are in self-imposed exile. The public is angry. The Queen is even angrier. And the press is salivating. Cutting themselves off from friends and family, and escaping the world’s judgmental eyes, feels like the best way to protect their fragile, all-consuming romance.

But when a crisis forces the new Duke and Duchess back to London, the Band-Aid they’d placed over their problems starts to peel at the edges. Now, as old family secrets and new ones threaten to derail her new royal life, Bex has to face the emotional wreckage she and Nick left behind: with the Queen, with the world, and with Nick’s brother Freddie, whose sins may not be so easily forgotten — nor forgiven.

According to the acknowledgments, Cocks and Morgan outlined The Heir Affair long before Harry and Meghan chose to socially distance from the royal family. Even still, it’s nearly impossible to read this book without superimposing their story against that of Bex and Nick. As a reader, it makes the experience of devouring The Heir Affair all the more fun.

This book has it all: truly bonkers family secrets, lovers being torn apart by outside pressure, royal brothers fighting, a royal engagement, an unlikely friendship with the queen, baby fever, and Gaz trying to get cast on a baking reality TV show. For real.

It’s enough to make a person swear their allegiance to the queen.

The Heir Affair releases Tuesday, July 7. Pre-order it today.
