Huge congrats are in order for Iman Vellani, the actress who was just announced last week as Marvel Studios’ newest title character, Ms Marvel for the new Disney+ series!

Just like Kamala Khan, the Pakistani-American teen from New Jersey who becomes Ms. Marvel, Iman is a truly fresh face, a total unknown, and an exciting newcomer. I am beyond excited to see this show and how it will mesh with the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward. Kamala/Ms Marvel is slated to appear in future MCU movies. Personally, I can’t wait to see her with Spiderman.Â
Visit the hashtag #RepresentationMatters anywhere online to see folks exclaiming the importance of an actual Pakistani heritage young woman playing the first Pakistani Marvel super hero in a major project. It matters.Â
Ms Marvel debuted as Kamala Khan in 2014, and she instantly became an entry point for so many young girls and tweens into the world of comics. Here’s my sweet baby picking up an actual comic book for the first time.Â
Her story takes on bullying, family issues, crushes, self-esteem, discouragement, perfectionism. The things that girls this age deal with on an emotional and hormonal level we olds can only remember and cringe over. I cannot wait to see who finds themselves in Kamala’s story now.Â
Ms Marvel is coming to Disney+ in 2022.Â
Beth is the proud sponsor of two little women and a huge fan of fandom. She took 3 years of Latin in high school and now speaks fluent pretension, which fully explains her current preference for gay wizard regency novels. She will roll over for a giant book with a map in the front. She takes comic book recommendations every day but Wednesday and TV recommendations never (she knows what's good).
