You know the deal: January new release books are hitting your Instagram stories and your BookTok recommendations, and you only have a couple of weeks to preorder.

Why Do We Need To Preorder?

Well, class, there are imminent supply chain issues, and it could be that your favorite books are not directly on the shelves on the day you waltz into your local store to get them. The best way to ensure that you get the books you want when you want them is to let publishers know exactly where to send them, day of. Your door.

*Note: It’s also great to simply put holds at your local library for these books as well. If you aren’t a book collector, or you aren’t sure you are going to want to buy a book, let your local library know that you are interested instead.

To that end, here are some of the books I think are worth your winter reading time. Curled up, cozy, beanies on indoors.

January New Release Books to Preorder

January 4th:

Reckless Girls by (Cool Table fave) Rachel Hawkins is taking a classic Agatha Christie thriller and turning it into millennial girl trip and gothic suspense.

Jean Chen Ho is debuting her story collection, Fiona and Jane, that has high promise and lots of hype. For fans of female friendship sagas that explore all the insecurities, irreverencies, and devotion they engender.

The Kindred by Alechia Dow looks KILLER. A young adult fantasy set in a galactic empire where each person is bonded to a kindred mate, this is the rich boy/ poor girl trope with all the twists. AND THAT COVER ensures all the swoons.

The Maid by Nita Prose is getting a lot of hype for its unique heroine and closed-room Clue mystery. The publisher is going hard on this one so expect to see it everywhere.

In This Has The Most Hype Of All The Hypes, Olga Dies Dreaming is sure to hit a million Best-Of lists. Already slated for a killer show on Hulu, Olga is the debut novel of Xochitl Gonzalez and examines what happens to families when they have to weather several storms.

January 11th:

This is my birthday, and coincidentally my favorite upcoming book release is coming out that day. See if you can guess which one it is.

Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan is a lush re-telling of a Chinese folktale that relays immortality, fierce feminine devotion and magic into what’s sure to be a stunning debut for a duology.

For fans of LQBTQ Young Adult rom-coms, Love Somebody by Rachel Roasek is sure to hit that sweetness vein. Best friends and former boyfriend and girlfriend fall for the same girl. Eeeeep.

THIS COVER. But more importantly, THIS PREMISE. My Fine Fellow is a gender-bent take on My Fair Lady, set in high society Georgian England with a culinary twist. Helena Higgins and Elijah Little? TAKE MY MONEY.

January 18th:

In the grand tradition of gay hockey romance stealing my heart, Icebreaker by A. L. Graziadei looks to be my newest fave.

Must Love Books has the perfect title for book lovers and an even better summary. Bookish woman enters the realm of the unknown to find herself and maybe love. Thank you, Shauna Robinson.

Electric Idol is the 2nd installment in Katee Robert’s Dark Olympus series, where she reimagines our favorite Greek myths in a sexy, dark and modern world. This one is Psyche and Eros, and that’s all you need to know.

January 25th:

And finally, this month is rounding out with the best gift we ever could have asked for, Kresley Cole is blessing us with the newest installment of her Immortals After Dark series. Munro. I don’t think I need to say anything else, but in case I do:
